LIVESTRONG English-Spanish Dictionary of Cancer Terms

Summer 2010

LIVESTRONG and the CDC identified an opportunity to help native Spanish speakers navigate the complex and confusing world of cancer terminology by putting the National Cancer Institute’s 6,000+ term dictionary in their pocket. While reviewing the data we realized that we could not only meet that goal, but exceed it by bundling the English definitions as well effectively creating a dictionary and translator. We also recognized that the app would need to work offline as medical environments often restrict cellular and wi-fi use so the entire database is compressed and stored locally. The design approach was simple – keep the app extremely focused and highly usable. Download the app from iTunes.
